Early Years

“….a child who right from the moment of birth, is so engaged in developing a relationship with the world and intent on experiencing the world that he develops a complex system of abilities, learning strategies and ways of organizing relationships”
(The Space of Childhood, In Dialogue with Reggio Emilia, 2006)

Early Years refers to the nursery (age 2), Pre-Kindergarten (ages 3 and 4) and Kindergarten (age 5) stages. These first years in education play a vital role in a person’s life successes, health and emotional wellbeing. The quality of a child’s earliest environments and the availability of appropriate experiences at the right stages of development are crucial determinants of the way each child’s brain architecture develops. Here at ISP we believe the environment is the second teacher. The homeroom teacher plans ahead to see what provocations can be set to inspire children’s inquiry and thinking. Our students self-direct their own learning, They can identify problems and use their knowledge to solve them.
