Library and Technology

Library ,International School of Piraeus

The Library is everyone’s second classroom!
ISP Library is one of the most exciting places in the school: the hub of learning, reading, research, discussion and collaboration.
ISP Library supports and enhances the Primary Years Programme and it is a special place. Guided by the IB mission, that empowers all students to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skilful researchers and ethical users of information.
The teacher-librarian's role is:

  • to discuss with the students how the IB learner profile and PYP attitudes influence life in the library and introduce them to research skills
  • to collaborate with the coordinator and classroom teachers. To ensure that the collection in the library supports the units of inquiry
  • to invite authors and professionals to visit the school to talk to students about topics related to the units of inquiry
  • to initiate programmes that involve the presence of parents in the library. Students love seeing their mum or dad’s involvement in the library. This promotes a positive attitude towards the love of literature amongst the whole school community
  • to organize library assemblies and events throughout the year in which parents, teachers and members of our community promote reading

The Role of Technology in the PYP

Mobile devices are present in the lives of our students. ISP has been a cutting-edge school for many years and recognized for its technology integration practices in the classroom. Technology is used in a seamless way in order to support personalized learning and student inquiry.Library Private School in Piraeus,ISPTechnology is not treated as a separate subject as it is in a traditional setting. Our philosophy and structure, of how technology is incorporated in the curriculum, is aligned with that of the IB. Technology is integrated into all subject areas with our Technology Integrator/Coach coplanning and co-teaching with all subject teachers in order to transform the learning process, and develop more engaging lessons that extend students’ knowledge and skills.
We follow the AID framework for our teaching and learning with Technology. AID uses three simple principles:

  •  Agency - ways of being: How technology extends us and other disciplines. eg. digital citizenship, responsible content creation and reuse, academic honesty
  • Information - ways of knowing: How you find and understand with technology. eg.resources, collect, manipulate and present data
  • Design - ways of doing: How you design and make with technology. eg. gamification, programming, robotics, design thinking.
